This is my personal experience and opinion. I’m sharing this in the hope it brings awareness to others and because I’m still deeply affected by what happened.
Last June I came to Dr. Karen Toubi because I had existing nerve damage in my private area (on my C). There was a small section of nerves on my C that were still working well, and I made that clear to her. I came in hoping to support healing for the damaged side and to preserve (and not touch) what was still intact. We decided on a treatment called CLIOVANA.
During our first few sessions, it was going well. I was and felt vulnerable and exposed lying on that table and trusting that she had the knowledge and training to handle my situation with the utmost care. In the beginning she was and seemed kind and empathetic. During one session, I asked her if the device was supposed to go directly on the C area itself/ on the nerves themselves, and she told me no, only the surrounding area. I remember that clearly.
In the final session, in the last few minutes, she told me she would “now go on and spread your nerves” (this was not done in any of my other sessions) and she immediately proceeded. I felt the equipment going on and pushing into my C, on the exact spot I showed and discussed had working nerves and were intact. Within seconds once the equipment was taken off, that spot felt different. I did not feel my nerves. I thought nothing of it in the moment though, I said my goodbyes and when I went home, I felt horrific changes and I realized something was wrong. I experienced tingling, sharp pain, warmth and that loss of normal sensation and all the pleasurable, normal nerves were no longer there I did not feel any of it in that spot anymore. The nerves that had been working before, but now felt affected. It felt like I was reliving past trauma, this time on the other side of my private area (the C).
When I returned to the office in a state of shock and obvious distress I tried to explain what I was feeling. I was met with a defensive response. At one point, when I became emotional I was told “Well, you can leave then if you want.” I found that response dismissive and hurtful especially given the state I was in and what I was trying to express.
She also told me that she and her staff had discussed the appearance of my private area. Her assistant (or nurse/PA) nodded while she said this. I found this extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable, especially considering the vulnerable position I was in.
This made me feel even more distraught. I tried to explain my entire situation to the office manager, Candace, but I felt dismissed. She made a comment at one point “Wow, this really is important to you, huh?” that I found deeply insensitive. There were loads of other things I will not go into that was said. I was in physical pain and emotionally overwhelmed. I also had difficulty accessing my account and records and was concerned about how my case was being handled from that point forward.
After a few weeks of back and forth, Dr. Toubi stopped responding to my messages. I had been reaching out frequently because I was panicking and had no idea what to do. I was in a state of emotional shock. She did tell me she had consulted with a colleague and was told that I had likely experienced damage from what happened. I know from what I was feeling, I absolutely did. My sensations/symptoms have continued now for 10 months, the warmth is gone but the rest of it is the same.
I cry every day. I am deeply depressed. I do not feel like me, all over again. I am struggling deeply and still trying to process the trauma.
I trusted this doctor with something incredibly sensitive, and I still don’t understand why the equipment was used the way it was, especially when I had previously been told that such use was outside the standard approach.
I continue to replay everything that happened. The area I asked her to be cautious with, because it was still functional, was affected directly. I don’t understand why that decision was made especially after I was assured otherwise. When I later asked her what led her to do that, I didn’t receive a clear answer.
This experience has been devastating. I sincerely hope no one else goes through something similar. If you are seeking care that involves sensitive nerve areas or treatments like CLIOVANA (Clivoana did not answer my calls, emails, nothing) please ask questions, get second opinions, and make sure you feel completely safe and informed. My hope is that sharing my story might help someone else make a fully informed decision. Again, this was my personal experience. I am posting this review so others can be careful with something so fragile.

I always have a very good experience with Dr. Wendy Kim Waldman. The staff is friendly, welcoming and of course professional. Dr. Waldman explains procedures and tests throughly. She takes time to answers all of my questions. I highly recommend her as a highly skilled gynecologist.

My wonderful gynecologist of 41 years recently passed away. I lost a dear friend and someone I trusted with every aspect of my care. I was extremely nervous about finding a doctor, particularly after such a long term connection with Dr. Liu, so I searched through many reviews. Fortunately, I found Dr. Wendy Waldman and had my first visit yesterday. I feel so relieved and grateful for my good fortune. She made me feel very comfortable, safe, and truly interested in my history and well being. Her manner is gentle, patient, and caring, keeping me apprised of each step in the exam and answering any questions. The staff is also welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Waldman and thank her for helping me curb my anxiety.

Dr Toubi is great. Her office is a hot mess. Most everyone is nice but I’ve been stood up multiple times due to scheduling confusion. I know everyone’s doing their best within a broken healthcare system but my experience was unacceptable.

I had a very disappointing experience with the manager Candace. While she initially comes across as kind, I found that this changes when issues arise, especially those caused by the office itself. Instead of taking responsibility and helping clients through difficult situations, she is dismissive and unkind. Very very cruel and bizarre speaking. I have also seen other reviews mentioning similar treatment, which makes me believe this is a pattern rather than an isolated incident. I hope she reflects on how she treats others, as compassion should be a priority in this kind of environment. I really hope you become a better person.
